Lawal: “I Told Them I’d Fight Rampage” Nov. 2nd

Yesterday Bellator dropped a bombshell by not only confirming that Tito Ortiz will not fight “Rampage” Jackson next Saturday due to a fractured neck, but that as a result of the injury, the promotion has cancelled the pay-per-view. Of course, thankfully for fight fans, the rest of the stacked card will still go down for free on SPIKE.

“Rampage” Jackson apparently wants to still fight, however, as the former UFC champ appeared on the latest edition of “Inside MMA” and relayed (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“If I’m going to keep it real, I would have said, ‘Look, throw another opponent at me and still keep the pay-per-view because I trained really hard for this.’ I had my knees fixed. I just wanted to show the world and the fans that still support me that I’m back. Everybody thought I was done after I lost my fight to Shogun (Rua).”

The outspoken fighter proceeded to fire off a list of names like Houston Alexander, Tyrone Spong, even Chuck Liddell and Kimbo slice as possible, last minute replacements (clearly not everyone on that list was a serious suggestion). In addition, “King” Mo Lawal apparently informed MMA Fighting.com’s Dave Meltzer that he would stepped in for Tito:

“I found out everything today. I told ‘em I’d fight Quinton, too,” said Lawal, who is to rematch Emanuel Newton for the interim light-heavyweight bout on the card. “I think this whole thing is weird.”

Judging by some fan response online, it looks like there are others who believe the situation is “weird”, since the consensus seems to be there wasn’t a ton of buzz behind the November 2nd event.

All the conspiracy talk aside, folks can still look forward to Chandler-Alvarez, Curran-Strauss, Kongo-Queiroz , Riggs-Bronzoulis, and Lawal-Newton, among other tilts.
